Plinko: the one game on this shelf that takes the decision away from you
Crash games · a lobby original
A ball falls through a triangle of pegs and lands in a slot. There is no cash-out, no lane to stop at and no moment of nerve — everything a player decides happens before the release, which makes Plinko the clean opposite of Chicken Road.
Plinko is on this page for one reason: it is what Chicken Road looks like with the player removed from the round.

What you actually choose
Three things, all before the ball moves:
- The stake. As usual, the only number that is certainly yours.
- The number of rows. More rows, more slots, a longer fall and a wider payout table.
- The risk level. Low keeps the slots close together; high hollows out the middle and pushes the extremes further apart.
After that, the ball is released and the game is over in about a second. No cash-out, no lane, no decision — which is why a Plinko session is measured in balls per minute and why it empties a balance at a pace that has nothing to do with nerve.
The middle, and why it is where the money goes
Every bounce is a left-or-right, so a ball's path is a run of coin-flips. Paths that land in the centre are enormously more numerous than the single path that goes right at every peg, which is exactly why the centre slots pay less than the stake and the edges pay hundreds of times it. The payout table is a picture of that distribution with the house's cut taken out of it.
This is the same fact that governs the ladder in Chicken Road, written the other way round: there, the ceiling is far away because thirty lanes have to be cleared; here, the edge slot is far away because fourteen bounces have to fall the same way.
Plinko against Chicken Road
| Plinko | Chicken Road | |
|---|---|---|
| When you decide | before the release | up to thirty times per round |
| Cash-out | none | the whole point of the game |
| Risk dial | rows and risk level | four difficulty levels |
| Round length | about a second | as long as you keep stepping |
| Auto play | usual, often many balls at once | one lane at a time, by hand |
| Feature buy | none | 100× the stake |
The row worth staring at is the last but one. Plinko is built to be run automatically, dozens of balls deep, and that is where its danger sits: a game with no decision inside the round is a game that can be played faster than anyone can think about what it is costing.
If you came from the road with the chicken
You will probably not enjoy it, and that is a useful thing to learn cheaply. The reason people stay on Chicken Road is the deciding — the same reason Mines lands well with the same players, and Limbo does not.
If what you want is the climb rather than the steps, that is Aviator and JetX. The whole shelf is laid out on crash games like Chicken Road.
The parts that are not about the game
Plinko exists as an in-house original at a great many casinos, so the payout tables differ between builds and the figure that matters is the one printed inside the lobby you are in. The other figures that matter are not about the game at all: the licence behind the balance, the coins the cashier takes, when documents are demanded and how much may be withdrawn — four columns, ten casinos, on the home page, with the cashier side explained on deposits and cash-outs.
