Easy, Medium, Hard, Hardcore: what each difficulty actually changes
The four roads
The difficulty row looks like a comfort setting. It is not: it rebuilds the road, the ladder and the ceiling of the round. Four levels, four lane counts, four maximum multipliers that run from x200 to x1,000,000 — all of them printed inside Chicken Road 2 itself.
Every screenshot on this page was read from Chicken Road 2 in demo mode on 22 September 2026: the rules panel for the lane counts, the Buy Bonus cards for the ceilings and the volatility labels, the road itself for the ladders. Chicken Road and Chicken Road 2 are both InOut Games titles; where a figure below is specific to the sequel, it says so.

The four levels side by side
| Level | Lanes | Maximum | Volatility (game's label) | Free spins in the bonus |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Easy | 30 | x200 | Low | 9 |
| Medium | 25 | x5,000 | Medium | 7 |
| Hard | 22 | x240,000 | High | 5 |
| Hardcore | 18 | x1,000,000 | Very high | 3 |
Two of those columns are doing all the work. Lanes set how long the road is; maximum sets what the end of it is worth. Between Easy and Hardcore the road loses twelve lanes and the ceiling gains four zeros, which tells you everything about where the risk moved.
What the ladder feels like
The multipliers are printed on the manhole covers in front of the chicken, so you can always see the next few steps before committing to them.
On Easy, the opening is almost flat: 1.01x, 1.02x, 1.05x, 1.09x, 1.13x, 1.18x. Fifteen lanes in, the covers we recorded were still reading 1.55x, 1.64x, 1.74x, 1.85x, 1.97x, 2.11x, 2.27x. Easy is a long walk that pays in small change until very late, and its ceiling of x200 sits at the far end of thirty lanes.
On Medium, the same first six positions read 1.06x, 1.20x, 1.36x, 1.54x, 1.76x, 2.03x. You reach 2x in six steps rather than twenty, and the road is five lanes shorter.
Hard and Hardcore continue in the same direction, and their ceilings say how far it goes: x240,000 and x1,000,000 are not numbers anyone plans a session around. They are the tail of a very long distribution, and the game labels them honestly — high and very high volatility, printed on the cards themselves.
A naming quirk worth knowing
The difficulty row in the game reads Easy, Medium, Hard, Hardcore. The rules panel, describing free spins, calls the fourth level Daredevil: “Free Spins per difficulty: Easy (9), Medium (7), Hard (5), or Daredevil (3).” Same level, two names, one left over from an earlier build. If an operator's game description uses one word and the game uses the other, they are talking about the same eighteen-lane road.
Choosing one, honestly
The useful question is not which level pays most. It is which level's typical round you can accept, because that is the one you will play a hundred times in an evening.
- Want most rounds to end with something in hand, and a small something is fine? Easy, with a cash-out target written down before the round starts.
- Want the round decided in a handful of steps? Medium reaches 2x by the sixth cover.
- Chasing the printed ceiling? That is Hard and Hardcore, and the price is that most rounds return nothing at all. Treat the stake as spent the moment you press Play.
Nothing about a previous round carries into the next one, so a run of losses on Hardcore is not a sign that a win is due, and a run of wins on Easy is not a sign that the road has warmed up. The only lever you hold is the size of the stake and the multiplier at which you leave, which is where the rules of the round and the bonus maths matter more than any level.
